Allen Roy 'Yogi' Harris of Tamaroa
Allen Roy "Yogi" Harris, 81, of Tamaroa, passed away at 1:20 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, 2019 at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital.
Allen was a mine operator at Freeman No. 3 Coal Mine at Waltonville and Arch Mining at Cutler. He also worked at Coca-Cola in Du Quoin. He was a member of the UMWA. Allen was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was born Jan. 8, 1938 in Scheller, the son of Charles Richard and Mary (Boismenue) Harris.
He married Naomi Ruth Simon on June 18, 1960 in Tamaroa, and she survives.
Allen is survived by his wife of Tamaroa; three sons, Jeffrey (Debra) Harris of Tamaroa, James (Jennifer) Harris of Hainesport, New Jersey, and Joel (Sheila) Harris and of Radom; grandchildren, Brent Harris of Radom, Amy Harris of Radom, Brooke Harris of Radom and Luke Harris of Hainesport, New Jersey; step-grandchildren: Kent Fisher of Du Quoin, Brent Fisher of Du Quoin, Valerie Bauza of Posen and Josh Fisher of Tamaroa; brother, William Harris of Mulkeytown; brother-in-law Lawrence Bathon of Rice; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Sarah Bathon, Hosea Harris Sr., Susie Ernest, Jennie Cizick, Captain Henry Harris, and a step-great-grandchild, Chase Bauza.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 22 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Bro. Arven Kirkpatrick officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Tamaroa Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin V.F.W., the American Legion and the Army National Guard.
Friends may make memorials to the Tamaroa Cemetery, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
