Charles Glenn Wilks of Pinckneyville

Charles Glenn Wilks, 92, of Pinckneyville, passed away at 1:12 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Glenn was born Dec. 6, 1926 in Pinckneyville, a son to Charles and Sophia (Short) Wilks. He married Melba J. Sullivan on Dec. 16, 1947 in Pinckneyville, and she preceded him in death on May 7, 2012.

Glenn had worked at Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Du Quoin, for 25 years and then at Community Consolidated School District #204, Pinckneyville, as a custodian for 16 years. He was a member of Holt's Prairie Baptist Church, Pinckneyville, where he served as custodian for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, playing his harmonica, and eating coconut cream pie. Glenn's passion was working on and restoring old cars. He dearly loved his church family and spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, Larry Wilks of Pinckneyville; three daughters, Sharon (Dennis) Buck of Pinckneyville, Gayle (Randy) Lowe of Coulterville, and Martha (Brian) Chandler of Pinckneyville; 10 grandchildren: Alicia (Mike) Millikin of Pinckneyville, Justin Wilks of Freeport, Jordan Wilks of Steeleville, Tara (Glynn) Geary of Du Quoin, Lane Buck of Nashville, TN, Holly (Carl) Jeffery of Coulterville, Autumn Lowe of Du Quoin, Josh (Megan) Chandler of Maryville, Wes Chandler of Los Angeles, CA, and Valley Chandler of Pinckneyville; 18 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Melba Wilks; two brothers, Ernest Wilks and Leland Wilks; and two grandchildren, Sean Buck and Erica Buck.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Holt's Prairie Baptist Church in Pinckneyville with Brother Collin Hirsch officiating. Interment will be in Holt's Prairie Cemetery in Pinckneyville. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association. Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, has been entrusted with arrangements.
