Helen Laverne Evans of Harrisburg

Helen Laverne Evans, age 90, of Harrisburg, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 at Harrisburg Medical Center.

Helen was born on Nov. 27, 1928 in Harrisburg to the late Marshall and Pearl (Nickolaus) Saylor. On June 15, 1947 she married Jeff Evans, and he preceded her in death on April 14, 2005.

She was a waitress. She loved to crochet, quilt, and go on bus trips sponsored by the local banks. She loved her cats.

Helen is survived by a son, Gary (Monte) Evans of Harrisburg; a daughter, Marsha (Ron) McDaniel of Harrisburg; a granddaughter, Emily (Evans) Wells and husband, Curtis of Harrisburg; great-granddaughters, Miley and Lydia Wells; a grandson, Matt Evans and friend, Jordan Raben and daughter, Nique of Harrisburg; a sister-in-law raised in the home, Vickie (Terry) Riley of Carbondale and their son Adam Riley; and Chelsea Qualls and children, Ryder, Phoenix, Paxton and Nixon of Carbondale.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jeff; one son in infancy, and two sisters in infancy.

Funeral services for Helen Laverne Evans will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Trent Duncan will officiate and burial will follow in Pierson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pierson Cemetery or Carrier Mills Nursing Home Activities Fund and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
