Jewell Cofield of Harrisburg
Jewell Cofield, 99, of Harrisburg, died at 8 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2019 at the Anchor Assisted Living Facility in Marion.
Funeral services will begin at noon Friday, Feb. 8, 2019 at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to the time of service on Friday. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Morse and the Rev. Ownly Williams will officiate.
Jewell was born on Sept. 12, 1919 in Carrier Mills to the late Arnett and Violet (Dabbs) Russell.
She married Richard Cofield on Jan. 12, 1941 and he preceded in death on Sept. 11, 1986.
Jewell accomplished many things during her lifetime. She started by graduating from Madam C.J. Walker Beauty School in Chicago in 1939 and becoming a traveling beautician. She also worked as an attendant at the Elgin State Mental Hospital and later on at Bowen Center in Harrisburg.
She was an antique dealer for many years. Jewel was also a historian and an author. She wrote a book entitled "Memories of Lakeview."
Jewell was a charter member of the First Opportunity Freewill Baptist Church in Carrier Mills.
She is survived by her daughter, Lois Williams of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Wynette (James) Render of Gulf Port, Mississippi, Zachary (Jeanie) Kendrick of Harrisburg, David McReynolds of Carrier Mills and Turquoise Kendrick of Harrisburg; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas (Lori) Kendrick of Evansville, Indiana, Jamie Render of Gulf Port, Mississippi, Neal Render of Chicago and Anthony Michael McReynolds of Indianapolis; six great-great-grandchildren, Tamara Kendrick, Devin Kendrick, Dylan Kendrick, Drew Kendrick, Kamari Smith and Karmen Smith; and several nieces and nephews including Terri Holmes, Terry Cofield, Greg Cofield, Gaynell Magaha and Mike Magaha; special daughters-in-law: Aubine Cofield and Ruth Abernathy; special cousins Marlene, William and Gloria Taborn and Pat Hayes; special friend Steve Cole; and many other cousins, friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard Cofield, and two sons, Larry Cofield and Cecil Cofield.
