Roger Dotson, formerly of Marion
Roger D. Dotson, 71, of Mahomet and formerly of Marion, died at 5:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Roger was born on March 6, 1947 in Carbondale, the son of Robert and Mary "Louise" (Monti) Dotson. He was raised in Marion and graduated from Marion High School in 1965.
Upon graduation, Roger enrolled at SIU Carbondale, before enlisting in the Army in 1967. Roger honorably served in the U.S. Army for four years, serving in the Vietnam War from 1967-1968 before being stationed in Germany.
Roger was a well-respected leader in the banking industry for more than 48 years. Most recently, he was employed as a banking specialist at West & Company CPA. He was actively involved in many organizations over the years that serve the communities where he has lived - the Kiwanis, Decatur SCORE program, United Way (was 2007 president of Effingham County), Marion's Heartland Regional Medical Center, and the Community Bankers Association of Illinois.
Survivors include his children, Kerrie (Joel) Chapman of Bartonville, Mary (Jonathon) Cash of Alton, Jennifer (Joseph) Altomonte of Bellingham, Massachusetts and Keith (Jennifer) Dotson of Leominster, Massachusetts; and grandchildren Kolten and Bryce Chapman, James Altomonte and Emily and Jack Dotson.
After living in many communities throughout central Illinois, Roger recently settled in Mahomet with plans to marry his fiancé, Karrie Herzog, in August. She survives, along with her children, Olivia and Derek Herzog, and his future mother- and father-in-law, Pam and Jack Conley of Findlay.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jo Ann Hanselman.
Memorials may be made to the United Way or the CBAI Foundation for Community Banking Scholarship Program, two organizations that Roger proudly supported throughout his life.
In accordance with Roger's wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date.
