Larry R. Cooper of Galatia
Larry R. Cooper, 75, of Galatia, died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019 at his residence.
Graveside services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 at East Salem Cemetery near Mount Vernon. Visitation will be held at 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25 at the Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Fred Mooney will officiate.
Larry was born on April 18, 1943 in Mount Vernon to the late Lloyd and Eva (Mackey) Cooper. He married the former Charlyan Mooney on Jan. 1, 1971, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 2017.
Larry was a retired schoolteacher and coach. He taught in northern Illinois before coming to Tamaroa for a short time. He was hired by the Galatia school system, where he taught and coached for more than 35 years until his retirement.
He also was an avid sports fan. He loved cheering for the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Larry is survived by his son, Bennie (Brenda Nelson) Cooper of Norris City; daughter, Robyan Cooper of Galatia; two grandchildren, Heather Hendrix and Chalon McGehee, both of Muddy; and a great-grandchild: Owen Hendrix of Muddy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Charlyan Cooper; two brothers, Bobby Gene Cooper and Harold Wayne Cooper; and two sisters, Sharon Cooper and Marilyn Hall.
