James Chester Turner of rural Williamson County

James Chester Turner, 100, a resident of rural Williamson County, passed away at midnight on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 in the Villas of Hollybrook in Carterville.

Chester was born in Williamson County on Dec. 19, 1917 to John L. and Addie Miller Turner.

He married Maribel Turner on Feb. 23, 1943 and she preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 2000.

Chester was a retired Amax Delta miner, and farmer. He was an avid horseman and belonged to the Heartland Mule Riders.

Chester is survived by a sister, Mildred Richey of Marion; four nieces and nephews, JoAnn Nicholson of Marion, Ron Jochum of Booneville, Indiana, Gordon Richey of Marion and Deborah McAlphin of Warner Robins, Georgia; and special good friends, Cheryl Hosmon and her daughters Jamie and Lori, and Addison and Robin Roberts.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Maribel; a son, John Edgar Turner and three sisters, Afton Jochum, Peggy Bailey and Evelyn Black.

Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018 at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, with the Rev. Ivan Ryan officiating.

Burial will be in the Coal Bank Springs Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorials be made to the Coal Bank Springs Cemetery in his memory.
