Elinor 'Nadine' Gielow of Pinckneyville
PINCKNEYVILLE - Elinor "Nadine" Gielow, 83, of Pinckneyville, passed away at 6:05 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018 at the Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Nadine was born on Aug. 12, 1935 in Du Quoin, daughter to James Craig and Edna Clementine (Glenn) Stanton. In her younger years, she worked as a waitress at Rosie's Café in Pinckneyville, where she met the love of her life, Eugene Erwin Gielow.
On Oct. 27, 1956, she married Eugene at Trinity Lutheran Church in Conant, and together they celebrated 60 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on March 28, 2017. She later worked as seamstress for over 30 years at the Garment Factory in Pinckneyville and Bridal Originals in Sparta. She was a gifted seamstress who made all of the clothes she and her children wore. Nadine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Pinckneyville.
Her hobbies included quilting, painting and other crafts. She was a member of the Pinckneyville Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed socializing. Nadine was an avid yard sale shopper, always looking for a good bargain. She dearly loved her grandchildren and spending time with them.
Survivors include three daughters: Jeannie (Jimmy Bill) Gladson of Pinckneyville, Elaine (Scott) Hoague of Herrin, and Lori (Tom) Sample of Cape Girardeau; one sister, Virginia Cunningham of Tilden; two grandsons, Fletcher Hoague of St. Louis and Blake Sample of Cape Girardeau; a cousin, Linda Brune of Nashville; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene Gielow; two brothers, Jimmy Duane Stanton and Bobby Glenn Stanton; one grandson, Ryan Eugene Erwin; and a brother-in-law, Charles Cunningham.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Conant at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 with the Rev. David Kollmeyer officiating. Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Conant.
Visitation will be held at Pyatt Funeral Home in Pinckneyville from 6-8 p.m. Friday and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church.
