Mary A Howie of Chester
Mary A Howie, 87, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 7:15 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018 at Memorial Hospital, Chester, Illinois.
She was born to the late Ernie and Jessie (nee Gale) Rodewald in June 13, 1931 in Murphysboro, Illinois. She married Harold T. Howie on August 25, 1950 at Peace Lutheran Church in Chester, Illinois; he survives.
Mary had worked at Aretha's Flower Shop, was a bus driver for Coleman's Bus Service and was self-employed in her own beauty shop, The Velvet Touch, in Chester. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Chester.
Survivors include her husband, Harold T. Howe of Chester; five children, Harold (Terry) Howie of Valparaiso, Ind., Robert (Sharon) Howie of Chester, Joyce (Mike) Hayer of Sparta, Jayne (Don) Berry of Chester, and Nancy (Jeff) Crossland of Chester; seven grandchildren, Leslie (Tim) Ebers, Matthew Howie, Joshua (Christa) Howe, Chris Hayer, Bree (Anthony) Barnett, Marcus Hayer, and Brett (David) Galloway; 10 great grandchildren, Jeren Ebers, Camrynn Howie, Braxton Conder, Ayla Ebers, Jonathon Hayer, Landen Conder, Brooke Howie, Laurey Hayer, Cedric Ebers, Mason Howie, Rielle Barnett and Cavoa Ebers; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Rodewald of Chester, and Virginia Long of Chester; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and husband, Peggy and Virgil "Wimpy" Johnson; one brother, John Rodewald; in-laws Ed and Elsie Howie; and her dear friend, Betty Watkins.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Pechacek Funeral Homes, Chester, with the Very Reverend Eugene H. Wojcik, V.F. officiating. Interment will be in St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery, Murphysboro.
Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at Pechacek Funeral Homes, Chester.
