Cecil 'C.D.' Hill, formerly of Marion
MARION - Cecil D. "C.D." Hill, 91, of Leander, Texas, formerly of Marion, passed away on Aug. 26, 2018. He was born in Marion on Aug. 25, 1927.
C.D. is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Sue (Stephens) Hill; his parents, Cecil E. and Lois M. (Borum) Hill; two sons, C. Dwayne Hill and Terry A. Hill; sisters, Gladys Key, Loretta Dreher Clark, Sheila Veach and Ann Meuth; and brother, Gary Hill.
He is survived by his children, C. Elaine (Hill) Burklow, Marce T. Hill (Pam), Steven D. Hill, and Crystal A. Hill; seven grandchildren, Elaina M. (Burklow) Seep (Chris), Elizabeth A. (Burklow) Donoghue (Dan), Marce T. Hill Jr., "Cubby" (Samantha) Paul L. Hill (Jennifer), Charles E. Hill (Jenny), Michael L. Hill (Kim) and Marcia L. (Hill) Hickman (Dustin); 23 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; in addition to many nephews and nieces.
C.D. was a veteran of the Navy, Army and Air Force. He served aboard the USS Lexington during World War II, became a pilot, and served in Korea and Vietnam. He started the Leander Police Department, served as the City Marshall, then as the first Police Chief. He also contributed both time and finances helping Leander incorporate as a city.
The City of Leander honored C.D.'s contributions by proclaiming Aug. 17, 2017, as "Cecil D. Hill" day and presenting him with a plaque at a City Council meeting.
C.D. served as Chief of Security at TECO Westinghouse in Round Rock, Texas, until his retirement at the age of 80. He also served as Charter President of Leander's Optimist Club twice and as Cub Master in Local Cub Scout Pack 160 and coordinated several Jamborees.
C.D. was a dedicated Christian who enjoyed meeting with the Man in the Mirror Christian Men's group for many years. He was dedicated to his family, and was a father, grandfather and mentor to many both within and without his immediate family.
C.D.'s love of eagles, cowboy hats, bolo ties and cowboy boots were known to all.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who wish to honor him to contribute to a charity of personal choice since C.D. contributed to many charitable organizations throughout his lifetime.
The family received guests for a time of visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. A funeral service with Military Honors followed in the chapel of Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home. Interment followed at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
