Doris Jean Stockton of Du Quoin

Doris Jean Stockton, 86, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018 at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Jean had been a homemaker. She was a member of Liberty Church in Du Quoin. She was also a past member of the Du Quoin Garden Club.

Jean was born Aug. 31, 1931 in Montezuma, Indiana, the daughter of Clyde and Ruby (Lightle) Montgomery.

She married Gilbert L. Stockton on Oct. 17, 1949 in Henderson, Kentucky and he survives.

She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin; one daughter, Karen (Larry) Britton of Du Quoin; one son, Chris (Shelley) Stockton of Du Quoin; one brother, James (Brenda) Montgomery of Alton; four grandchildren, Michael (Keri) Brown of Imperial, Missouri, Andrea (Jeremey) Helmer of Bloomington, Shelby (Raymond) Loyd of Du Quoin, and Autumn (Zachary) Cavitt of Du Quoin; six great-grandchildren, Kylie Brown, Kerrigan Brown, Kristen Brown, Ryan Helmer, Amelia Helmer and Claire Helmer.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Bruce David Stockton and Stephen David Stockton.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Lon McPherson officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Sesser.

Friends may make memorials to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
