Leila Dierks of Steeleville

Leila Dierks, 63, of Steeleville, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018, at the St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Leila was born on Nov. 10, 1954, in Chester, the daughter of Amos L. and Laverna (Haberman) Dierks. She was baptized on Dec. 5, 1954, and confirmed on May 14, 1967.

Leila worked at the Gilster Mary Lee cake plant as a lab tech; she was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church - Wine Hill, where she served on the church council and the Altar Guild; she was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #3553, and was past president of the Auxiliary Post; and she was past president of the 14th VFW District.

Leila was a 4-H Club member in Wine Hill and also a former Popeye Queen in Chester.

Leila is survived by her sister, Carolyn (Gary) Crutchlow, of Chester; niece, Tracy (William) Hawk, of Herrin; great-nephews Connor and Lucos; and many cousins.

Miss Dierks was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and one niece, Dawn Crutchlow.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church - Wine Hill, with Debra Rathert, lay minister, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville, where friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday, July 30 and 7:30-9 a.m. Tuesday, July 31. Visitation is also from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
