Frances Mae DeRousse of Sparta

Frances Mae DeRousse, nee Burns, 92, of Sparta, Illinois, passed away at 3:50 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018 at Sparta Community Hospital.

Frances was born on Dec. 12, 1925 in Sparta to Clifford and Vada Burns, nee Hall. She married Gerald Harper DeRousse on May 23, 1947 in Belleville, Illinois. Mr. DeRousse preceded her in death on July 13, 2011.

Frances was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Sparta. She worked as secretary in the Bindery Office for Spartan Printing for 24 years; and also for the Illinois Power Company. She was the past gift shop manager and member of the Sparta Community Hospital Auxiliary, member of Pride of Hi Green Lodge #932 Railroad Auxiliary, and member of the Sparta American Legion Auxiliary.

Frances was active in her church serving as a past financial secretary, coordinator of the funeral dinners for many years and member of the LWMLA.

She is survived by two daughters, Jean Shanley of Burlington, Kentucky, and Mary (James) Green of Chester; two grandsons, Bradley (Carrie) Campbell of Herrin and Lance (Jennifer) Campbell of Chester; two great grandsons, Nate and Luke Campbell of Herrin; and one great granddaughter, Sophie Campbell of Chester. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Alfred "Sparky" Degener and Carl Lewis of Sparta.

Frances is preceded in death by an infant daughter Judy, her parents, Clifford and Vada Burns, brother Paul Burns, sisters Betty Lewis and Martha Degener, and a host of cousins.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 17 at St. John Lutheran Church in Sparta, with Pastor Cory Marth officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, July 16, at McDaniel & Lee Family Funeral Home in Sparta. Interment will be at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta.
