Colleen Mausey of Creal Springs
MARION - Phyllis Colleen Mausey, 78, of Creal Springs, passed away peacefully at 8:34 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018, surrounded by family at her home.
She was born Wednesday, July 28, 1939 in Marion, the oldest daughter of William Everett (Bud) Wharry and Mildred Bernice Wharry.
Colleen was a 1956 graduate of Crab Orchard High School and continued her education at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale, graduating in 1958.
Colleen married the love of her life, C.W. Mausey, on Aug. 30, 1958. Together, they shared 60 years of marriage.
Colleen was a teaching assistant at Crab Orchard Elementary School and she also worked at the Hearing Impaired School in Marion. Colleen worked alongside C.W. for many years in business, including real estate, rentals, resale, and farming.
For many years C.W. and Colleen enjoyed traveling within the United States and all over the world, including Egypt, Israel, Japan, Panama, Alaska, Nova Scotia, Europe and Ireland.
Colleen enjoyed learning new things, and especially enjoyed technology. She liked using her computer, iPhone, and eBay. She lived her life with a sense of adventure, fun, and a sense of humor.
Colleen was an active member of Arnold View Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family, including all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who knew her as "Maw-Maw."
She is survived by her husband, C.W. Mausey, of Creal Springs; two sons, Ken (Sharon) Mausey of Creal Springs, Gary (Lori) Mausey of Marion; a daughter, Sandra (Mike) Brainard of Marion; seven grandchildren, Sean (Jamie) Mausey of Marion, Julie (Alex) Tecklenburg of Christopher, Sarah (Dylan) Pyron of Carterville, Michelle (Ray) Kissing of Marion and David (fiancee Kari Robertson) Brainard both of Marion, and twins Abby and Natalie Mausey of Marion; five great-grandsons and three great-granddaughters.
Colleen is also survived by a sister, Carolyn (Bill) Cooper of Coffeen; brothers-in-law, Jerry Bailey of Marion, and Gale (Melba) Mausey; and sisters-in-law, Dola Mausey and Rose Mausey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Mildred Wharry; an infant brother, Harold; a sister, Marlene Bailey; and brothers-in-law, Robert Mausey Sr. and Lowell Mausey.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, July 11 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion with Brother Ivan Ryan of Arnold View Free Will Baptist Church presiding. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion.
A time of visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.
