The Rev. Dr. William Glenn Browning, formerly of Crab Orchard and Marion

MARION - The Rev. Dr. William Glenn Browning, 86, of Springfield, formerly of Crab Orchard and Marion, departed this world on June 6, 2018 in Springfield surrounded by his loving family.

Dr. Browning was born in Chicago on Feb. 6, 1932, the son of Francis Lavern Browning and Mary Edna (Briscoe) Browning, who preceded him in death. He married Lily Ann Gill, of Albion in 1952 and they enjoyed 66 years together.

After graduating from Crab Orchard Community High School, Dr. Browning attended Western Illinois State Teachers College, where he earned a BS in Education, specializing in English Literature. He then enrolled at the School of Religion at the Evanston campus of Northwestern University and later earned a Doctor of Ministry degree at Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard and was very proud to participate in a Veterans Honor Flight earlier this year.

Dr. Browning served many churches as pastor, including the communities of Worden, Plymouth, New Boston, Maquon, Keithsburg, Silvis, Beardstown, Kankakee, Monticello, Kewanee, and Monmouth, Illinois. Following retirement, Bill and Ann lived in Marion.

Along with his wife, Ann, he is survived by two daughters, Patricia Jamison and son-in-law, Dr. John Jamison, of New Berlin, and Deborah Lundberg and son-in-law, Donald Lundberg, of Salem, Oregon. He also leaves one son, William Browning and daughter-in-law, Linda, of Conifer, Colorado. He had five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Browning (Deborah); one sister, Beverly Aayars; and several nieces and nephews.
