Dale Clark of Carbondale

Dale Clark, 99, of Carbondale passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Century Assisted Living.

He was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Chatham to Roy Earl and Clara (File) Clark.

Dale married Grace Craig Jan. 1, 1937. They shared 67 years of marriage. She preceded him Jan. 27, 2004.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army, serving in Europe, including France, Germany and Czechoslovakia, during World War II.

He worked for the Illinois Central Railroad from 1949 to 1977, having served faithfully as a supervisor of railroad tracks for 25-plus years.

Dale was a man of the Christian faith from an early age and served in several Christian churches as an elder and Sunday school teacher, and most recently was a member of the Grand Avenue Christian Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Myrna Beasley of Du Quoin; two sons, Robert (Trilby) Clark of Las Vegas and Philip (Diane) Clark of Elgin; granddaughters Mary (David Smith) McKean of St. Elmo, Linda (Bob) Sponsel of Toledo, and Carl (Jim) Snyder of Montrose; step-grandchildren Jill (Tom) Corrao of Elgin and Michael (Jill) Schmidt of Hampshire; 12 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives; and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold Clark; a daughter, Mary O'Neill in 2011; and a grandson, Michael Beaulieu in 2018.

Funeral services for Dale Clark will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home with Terry Shepherd officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Grand Avenue Christian Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
