Lowell G. Lee of Du Quoin

Lowell G. Lee, 78, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:49 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

Lowell was the owner and operator of Lee's Greenhouse for 30 plus years. He was a graduate of SIU, Carbondale, and served as a St. Johns Village Trustee. He enjoyed gardening and helping others. Lowell was of the Baptist faith.

Lowell was a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He took part in aerial photography during the Vietnam War. While in service, he received the Antarctica Service Medal, National Defense Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. Lowell also earned the Air Force Longevity Service Award and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.

Lowell was born June 4, 1939 at Du Quoin, the son of Ward Robert E. and Alice Marie (Marlow) Lee.

He is survived by his aunt, Delores Fisher of Tamaroa; several cousins and many, many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Oren Dale Lee and a sister who died in infancy.

Military graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin, with the Du Quoin VFW, American Legion and U.S. Air Force conducting the service.

Those attending the service are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

Friends may make memorials to the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion Funeral Detail, which will be accepted at the cemetery and funeral home.
