Bette Louise Carlton, formerly of Benton
Bette Louise Carlton, 90, of Carmi and formerly of McLeansboro passed away at 7:38 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 27 at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Friday, April 27 at Harre Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Sefried and the Rev. Mike Fields officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McLeansboro.
She was born April 17, 1928, in Benton to Clyde Barnfield and Pearl Hobbs. She was a homemaker.
She married Robert Carlton in 1950 in Benton. He passed away May 10, 2000.
She worked as a telephone operator and at the dress and shirt factory of McLeansboro. She was a farm wife for many years, a seamstress, gardener, caretaker and a wonderful cook; she loved canning out of the garden.
She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church of McLeansboro. She was a Wonder Christian lady who loved everyone.
Survivors include daughter June Acord and husband Joe of Carmi; grandson: Cliffton Acord and wife Ashley of Carmi, brother Bill and Phyllis Barnfield of Benton; sister-in-law Carmen Barnfield of Benton; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to all the staff at Wabash Christian Village for the care given to Bette.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter Jane; two brothers, Jim and Richard Barnfield; extended family Ralph and Mildred Acord; and nephew Robert Barnfield.
Memorials may be made to Wabash Christian Village Chapel and will be accepted at Harre Funeral Home or the Wabash Christian Village Center.
