Charles W. Parks of Carrier Mills

Charles W. Parks, 80, of Carrier Mills, died at 3:08 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1937 in Carrier Mills to the late Shelby and Betty (Ney) Parks. He married the former Barbara Jean Donohue and she preceded in death on July 17, 1986. He worked as a chemical engineer at Monsanto Chemical Company until retirement.

He served in the U.S. Navy for many years and was a member of Carrier Mills American Legion Post 364.

He is survived by a daughter, Helen Rose (John) Walker of Granite City; son, Gary (Mary Kay) Parks of Granite City; grandchild, Justin Parks of Lebanon, Missouri; stepbrother, Dewayne (Barb) Randolph of Anna; sister-in-Law and brother-in-law, Debbie and Bennie Manion of Marion; and four great friends, Paula Pyle, Richard Chadeyne, Albert Mitchell and Gene Ross.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Parks; parents; stepmother, Wilma Parks; and two sisters, Patsy Wozhowski and Mary Ann Parks.

Military rites will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills by the Carrier Mills and Harrisburg American legions and the U.S. Navy Ritual Team.

Visitation will be held after 11 a.m. on Saturday. Burial will be at a later date in Lakeview Memorial Garden in Fairview Heights.
