James Walter Courtney, formerly of Harrisburg
James Walter Courtney passed away after a short stay at Beacon Place, in Greensboro, North Carolina.
"Jim" was born in Harrisburg, Illinois on April 9, 1941 to Walter "Dutch" Courtney and Edith Aline Gunter Courtney and grew up in Galatia.
He attended Southern Illinois University, getting his degree in Accounting after serving two years in the Army as a military policeman.
He retired from Freeway Foods, where he was the comptroller for 20 years.
He was a member of Guilford College Methodist Church and had been active in the Guilford College Kiwanis, serving as a officer.
Mr. Courtney is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sally Daniel Courtney, son William "Bill" Courtney (Linda) and daughter Cindy Courtney Pollock.
He was devoted to his family and extended family, of which there are two grandchildren, three step-grandsons, four great-grandchildren, three God-daughters, and their families.
The family would like to thank Cone Health Heart ICU, 4 W, Neuro ICU, and Beacon Place for their exceptional care.
