Benjie Ralph Gibbs of Du Quoin

Benjie Ralph Gibbs, 64, of Du Quoin, passed away at 7:50 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Benjie retired from Kroger in January 2015 after 44 years of service as co-manager in Herrin. Retirement provided him the opportunity to spend more time with his grandchildren, all of whom he cherished.

Benjie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin.

He was born Feb. 13, 1954 in Murphysboro, the son of Bennie and Serena (Wilmouth) Gibbs. He married June E. Archer on Aug. 28, 1976 in Du Quoin. She survives.

Benjie is also survived by three children, Philip Gibbs and Ericka Atkins of Du Quoin, Jason Gibbs of Du Quoin, and Holly (Cody) Eubanks of Carbondale; one sister, Kellie (Andrew) Swayne of Du Quoin; and seven grandchildren, Ryan Gibbs, Garrett Gibbs, Lylee Gibbs, Keira Gibbs, Riley Atkins, Archer Eubanks and Rhonin Eubanks.

Benjie was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Keith Gibbs.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Rev. Joe Wagner officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
