Carlie Mae McGuire of Du Quoin

Carlie Mae McGuire, 99, of Du Quoin, passed away at 2 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Fairview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Du Quoin.

Carlie had been an inspector at P.R. Mallory. She also cleaned houses and was a janitor for Illinois Power Company and the Du Quoin State Bank.

Carlie was a member of the First Christian Church in Du Quoin, where she taught Sunday school for 37 years. She was also a member of the Church Women United, the Dorcus Sewing Circle at the church and was a choir member.

She taught knitting class in her home for many years. Carlie was known for wearing many costumes and going all over town. She was the first Woman of the Year in 1987. She participated in Red Cross blood drives.

Carlie was born Jan. 11, 1919 in Du Quoin, the daughter of William E. and Mabel (Flauss) Clark.

She married Louis Ellsworth McGuire on Nov. 10, 1939 in Missouri and he preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 1971.

She is survived by one daughter, Janet Miller of Du Quoin; two grandsons, Carl Miller of Benton and Bret Burks of Kentucky; three great-grandchildren, Mary, Lorie and Amber; and one great-great-grandson, Elijah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Carolyn Burks, son-in-law Joe Miller, sisters Ruth Porter and Margaret Clark, and a brother Robert Clark.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Rev. Terry Brace officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Marshall Browning Hospital Tree of Life or the Fairview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center Activity Fund, both of which will be accepted at the funeral home.
