Rose Ellen Lipe of Carbondale
Rose Ellen Lipe, 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Rose was born March 26, 1928, in Boskydell to Hugh Edwin and Edith Jane (Tabouring) Stearns.
She married the love of her life, Lester Wilburn 'Wib' Lipe, Sept. 5, 1947, in Carbondale. Together they celebrated 55 years of marriage. He preceded her in death Feb. 21, 2003.
Rose is survived by her son, John Patrick Lipe (Ruth Dougherty) of Carbondale; three daughters, Laura Lipe, Nancy Ellen (Steven) Esling and Sara Beth Lipe, all of Carbondale; four sisters, Fay (Charles) Heern, Joy (Gene) Sanders and Effie Brimmer, all of Carbondale, and Marge (Ward) Sutton of Gilmer, Texas; four grandchildren, Joshua Wilburn Lipe, Ellen Rose Esling and Molly Jean Esling, all of Carbondale, and Matthew Samuel (Ashley) Lipe of Fairview, Texas; two great-grandsons, Jacob and Thomas Lipe of Carbondale; two sisters-in-law, Betty Stearns and Lora Stearns; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by husband Lester Wilburn 'Wib" Lipe; a son, Larry Lipe; and eight siblings, Gilbert, Vern, Criss, Tod, David and John Stearns, Kathleen Neal and Ruby Holder.
Rose and her late husband, Wib, owned and operated Lipe Orchard Market in Carbondale since 1950. She will be missed greatly by everyone who came in contact with her.
She was a member of Boskydell Baptist Church since 1939, where she was the church pianist, church clerk for 66 years and a Sunday school teacher. She was very passionate about Operation Christmas Child's Shoebox project.
Rose was also a member of the J.C. Home Extension since 1947 and a charter member of the Carbondale Community High School Honor Society.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Boskydell Baptist Church of Carbondale with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Combs officiating. Burial will be at Boskydell Cemetery of Carbondale.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2018, at Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale.
