Margaret J. Kern of Du Quoin

Margaret J. Kern, 92, of Du Quoin, passed away at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at her residence.

Margaret had worked at Hecht Store at the University Mall in Carbondale, where she sold ladies' designer clothes. She had also worked at Wyman's Style Shop in Du Quoin. She had also been a secretary at the Du Quoin Packing Company.

Margaret graduated from Du Quoin Township High School in 1942. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. She was a past member of Zi Alpha Zi Sorority.

Margaret was born Oct. 23, 1925 in Du Quoin, the daughter of Joseph and Lena (Polumbo) Janello.

She married Philip P. Kern on July 27, 1946 in Du Quoin and he preceded her in death on March 5, 1998. They enjoyed 52 years of marriage.

She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Isom, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and four sisters.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, April 16, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin, with Father Joseph Oganda officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to Masses and will be accepted at the funeral home.
