Wilbur Hemmer of Du Quoin
Wilbur Hemmer, 93, of Du Quoin, passed away at 5:10 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Wilbur had been a draftsman for 25 years at Imperial Oil Company in St. Louis, MO. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1950. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
Wilbur was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th Degree, EAA Chapter #277 in Carbondale (Flying Club), Experimental Aircraft Association and Campers Group. Wilbur was also a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion.
He was born July 22, 1924 at Du Quoin, the son of William and Mary (Wendling) Hemmer.
He is survived by two sisters, Patricia Wheatley of Du Quoin and Marcella (Ralph) Hayes of Pinckneyville; brother-in-law Frank Graff of Carbondale; nieces Pam Loiacono, Carolyn Engel, Marla McNulty, Mary Miller, Joyce Sprenger and Tracy Cicardi; nephews Charley Mozi, Tim Wheatley, Tom Wheatley and David Wheatley; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Graff and Marie Mozi; and two brothers, Delbert Hemmer and Edward Hemmer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin, with Fr. Joseph Oganda officiating.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the church.
Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorials to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Cemetery or Catholic Religious Retirement Fund, all of which will be accepted at the funeral home.
