Betty Joan Yarber, formerly of Carrier Mills and Stonefort

Betty Joan Yarber, 85, of Marion, and a former resident of Carrier Mills and Stonefort, passed away at 3:40 a.m. Friday March 9, 2018 in the Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Indiana.

Betty was born in Pope County on May 1, 1932 to Arthur and Trannie Hancock Hill. She was a graduate of Carrier Mills High School, and on Aug. 22, 1951, she married Joseph (Joe) Yarber.

Joe died on March 8, 2006. Joe and Betty owned and operated the B & J Café in Carrier Mills for many years. She was a licensed insurance agent for Fife Insurance for 30 years. Betty was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Carrier Mills where she belonged to the WMU and taught Sunday school for many years.

Betty also belonged to the Michigan Club and the Skip-Bo Club. She was the last of nine brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her three daughters: Debbie Yarber of California; Lisa Yarber of Carrier Mills; and Heather (Michael) Walker of Henderson, Kentucky; five grandchildren: Jada Banks, Amber Evans, Sierra Walker, Joseph Walker, and Landon Walker; and six great-grandchildren: Hailey Banks, Chase Banks, Cooper Banks, Josiah Evans, Melia Evans and Michael Evans.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; five Brothers: Guy, Bob, David, John, and G.B. Hill; and three sisters: Ada Morse, Martha Hill, and Leotta Morse.

Family and friends called at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills on Monday March 12. Rev. Harl Cockrum officiated. Burial was in the Little Saline Cemetery in Stonefort.

Betty wished that memorials be made to the Little Saline Cemetery or to the First Baptist Church in Carrier Mills in her memory.
