Betty Louise Tanner of Carrier Mills
CARRIER MILLS - Betty Louise Tanner, 76, died at 10:16 a.m. Friday Feb. 2, 2018, in Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, Feb. 5, in Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Dick Driskell, the Rev. Kenny Griffin and the Rev. Jeff Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Betty was born July 8, 1941, in Galatia to Ralph and Lucille (Jones) Owens, who preceded her in death.
She was a selfless, sweet and gentle woman who was loved by many. Betty loved to travel and spent many summers at the beach. She enjoyed playing miniature golf and puzzles and was an avid Elvis Presley fan.
She was a long-standing member of New Salem Baptist Church in Carrier Mills. She taught Sunday school there for a while and was a member of WMU.
Betty also volunteered her time at the local nursing home.
She was married to her devoted husband, Carl Eugene "Gene" Tanner Nov. 11, 1959. To this union two children were born, Debbie Tanner of Carrier Mills and Steve Tanner of West Frankfort.
Other survivors include six grandchildren, Brandi (Brett) Brachear of Carterville, Matthew Tanner and Jordan Tanner, both of Carbondale, Brandon Tanner of Herrin, Jamie Reynolds of Harrisburg and Travis Hall of Carrier Mills; five great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Jones of Harrisburg; and two brothers, Norman (Joyce) Owens of Marion and Larry (Mary) Owens of Clay City, Indiana.
