Matthew Clayton Smock of Harrisburg

HARRISBURG - Matthew Clayton Smock, 15, passed away at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, at his home in Harrisburg.

Matthew was born June 10, 2002, in Carbondale to John and Martha (Tolbert) Smock.

Though Matthew's short time in this world was challenged by Duchenne muscular dystrophy, his passion for life was unbridled.

Matthew was a student at Harrisburg High School in his sophomore year and aspired to be a video game designer. He enjoyed movies, cooking, watching WWE professional wrestling, and his one true love, a black toy poodle, Sammie.

He profoundly impacted the lives of all who knew and loved him.

Matthew will be greatly missed by scores of family and friends.

Survivors include his parents, John and Martha Smock of Harrisburg; sister, Amanda Nicole Smock of Harrisburg; maternal grandmother, Betty Jo (Dunn) Tolbert of Eagle, Wisconsin; aunt, Margaret Shimkus of Harrisburg; uncles, Rusty (Lori) Smock of Harrisburg, Steve (Cheryl) Smock of Harrisburg and the Rev. Michael (Rose) Hook of Eagle, Wisconsin; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John Russell and Freda (Turner) Smock; maternal grandfather, Norman L. Tolbert; uncle, Tony Shimkus; and aunt, Linda Robinson.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, in Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg with the Rev. Michael D. Hook officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

For those who prefer, monetary contributions may be made to the Matthew Smock Fund at Peoples National Bank in Harrisburg. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
