Martha Ellen (Wiley) Gidcumb, formerly of Raleigh

RALEIGH - Martha Ellen (Wiley) Gidcumb, 82, formerly of Raleigh, peacefully passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, due to complications related to Alzheimer's disease.

Martha was born Sept. 19, 1935, in Danville to Manoah and Ollie Wiley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton M. Gidcumb in 1998. And with her passing, she is now reunited with her parents; sister, Dorothy Curtis; brothers, Harry, Jack and James Lawrence; and beloved daughter-in-law, Melony Gidcumb.

Survivors include her sons, Christopher W. Gidcumb, Brett L. Gidcumb and wife Sandra, Randy K. Gidcumb and wife Deborah and Joseph M. Gidcumb and wife Mary; grandchildren, Timothy, Krystal, Samantha, Clifton, Kaylee and Paige; great-grandchildren, Evan, Kierra, Brandon, Carson, Bella and Addison; sister, Patricia Erkman; and niece, Debra Wells.

Martha lived much of her life in Raleigh and worked as a legal secretary and village treasurer. She moved to Canton, Ohio, after retirement in 2005 to be close to her sons and family.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed painting, reading, cooking, traveling, trips to the casino and her beloved dogs.

Martha was hard working, determined, fearless, funny, compassionate and loving. She loved her family very much and was much loved by all who knew her.

An open house celebrating Martha's life will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, for family and friends at Joe and Mary's house in Canton, Ohio.

Private memorial services and interment of her ashes has been planned for early summer in Sunset Garden Cemetery in Harrisburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
