Donald L. 'Don' Absher of Carrier Mills

CARRIER MILLS - Donald L. "Don" Absher, 80, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 9, 2018, at the home of his daughter, Valerie Henshaw, in Harrisburg.

Don was born May 28, 1937, in Harrisburg to Royal and Marcella (Tanner) Absher.

He married Marybelle Holmes on May 13, 1961, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 21, 2001.

Don was a U.S. Army veteran, retired Sahara coal miner and avid golfer.

Survivors include his daughters, Valerie (Kenneth) Henshaw of Harrisburg and Stephanie (Todd) Laake of Mattoon; grandchildren, Derek (Connie) Henshaw of Harrisburg, Keenan (Amy) Miner of Albion and Brody Cooper of San Diego, California; great-grandchildren, Dylan Henshaw, Allyson Henshaw and Destiny Miner; and brother, Rex (Cozetta) Absher of South Point, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marybelle; and brother, Bob Absher.

Graveside memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, in Salem Cemetery in Carrier Mills with the Donnie Hughes officiating. Those planning to attend the services are asked to meet at the cemetery.

For those who desire, memorials in his memory may be made to any local animal shelter.
