Sophia A. (Jones) Anglin of Galatia
HARRISBURG - Sophia A. (Jones) Anglin, 93, passed away peacefully at approximately 3:15 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, in Fountain View Nursing Home in Eldorado.
Her passing has allowed her to go home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ. Mrs. Anglin had been confined to the nursing home for the past several years due to dementia.
Sophia was born Sept. 27, 1924, in close proximity to Lebanon Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was born to W.E. and Ada (Hicks) Jones on their family farm, northwest of Galatia. She attended Lebanon Country School and graduated from Galatia High School.
She married James Junior Anglin on Sept. 9, 1944, and they shared 60 years together. They had two daughters, Mrs. Karen (Garry) Schwartz of Galatia and Mrs. Darlene (Roger) Roper of West Frankfort.
Sophia had five grandchildren, Gary Schwartz of Evansville, Indiana, Angie Schwartz of Benton, Mrs. Kim (Scott) Head of London, England, Mrs. Janet (Blake) Gratkowski of Katy, Texas, and Roger Roper (Jana) of Kansas City, Missouri. She also had nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and older sister, Ruby, who died in early childhood.
Sophia was the oldest living member of Lebanon CP Church, where she attended her entire life. Serving her Lord Jesus Christ and attending church was a special joy in her life.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, in Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with the Rev. Jerry Williams and the Rev. Roger Roper officiating. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
For those who prefer, donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Southern Illinois Hospice Care or Galatia Food Pantry. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
