Obituary for Barbara L. Kimble
Barbara L. Kimble - November 25, 1922 - September 13, 2016
Barbara Leavitt Kimble, a 11-year resident of Seal Beach, California, passed away peacefully at home on September 13 at the age of 93.
Barbara was born in Reily Lake, Illinois. She was a graduate of Sparta High School and met her husband, Lt. Col. Robert Kimble (Bob), in St. Louis.
They married in 1946 and enjoyed living in different cities as his military career took him around the country, finally landing in Rialto, California in 1955.
Barbara and her family moved to Lake Havasu, Arizona, in 1971 when it was still a small town. She worked for 15 years as a library assistant at the Havasupai Middle School and earned an AA degree from Mojave Community College.
Barbara was involved an inveterate organizer and involved in numerous groups. She was the founding regent of the Lake Havasu Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the organizing treasurer of the Colonial Dames XVII Century chapter.
She was also heavily involved with the Republican Women's Club and served on the Board of the LHC Salvation Army.
Barbara returned to California in 2005, moving to Seal Beach Leisure World. She continued to pursue her genealogical research with a passion, corresponding with people all over the country.
She was an active member of the Leisure World Genealogical Society, the Republican Women's Club, and several other organizations.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband, Bob, and her siblings, Ralph Courtland Leavitt (Ada), Jewell Narcissa Menard (Greg), James W. (Colleen), and her niece and namesake, Barbara Leavitt Brown.
She is survived by her daughter, Bobbi Kimble, of Long Beach, California, and her many nieces and nephews: Shelby Leavitt Powell, Karen Leavitt Stallman, Joanne Meyer, Rebecca Dudenbostel, Carl Dean Todd, John Todd, Georgia Renner, Afra Jean Walker, and Betsy Turgeon.
Barbara's ashes will be interred in the Leavitt family plot in Ellis Grove at a future date. A scholarship in Barbara's name has been established, and those wishing to make donations may send them to the Barbara L. Barbara had a long and happy life, and left this world just the way she wanted to. Wherever she lived, she remained true to her Southern Illinois roots. Many thanks to the family and friends who supported on her life's journey, she will be sorely missed.
