Obituary for James C. Schmerbauch

James C. Schmerbauch peacefully passed away at his home in Palm Springs California on April 19, 2016 at the age of 93.

Jim was born on December 24, 1922 on Kaskaskia Island, Illinois, where he attended school and spent his early years with 9 siblings and his parents, Louis Schmerbauch and Charlotte Buatte.

Jim served in the U.S. Army in Italy and Africa from 1943 to 1945 and returned to marry Frances L. Ingram of Sikeston, Mo., on January 20, 1949.

The newlyweds moved to Sacramento, California where they were long-time residents and Jim worked for and retired from the California Department of Justice.

Together they recently settled in Palm Springs to be closer to family. Jim was a faithful member of the Sacramento Holy Spirit Catholic Church for 52 years and was enthusiastically involved with volunteer groups, a member of VFW, American Legion and served as an officer in the Knights of Columbus.

Jim is survived by his wife Frances, numerous nieces and nephews and close family friends.

Jim's seven brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Services were held on May 3 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Palm Springs, California and he was interned at Riverside, California National Cemetery at 1:15 with Military Honors. Wiefels Cremations & Funeral Services are in charge of arrangements.
