Obituary for Ruth E. Welten
Ruth E. Welten, age 82 of Murphysboro passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 9:51 p.m. in St. Joseph's Memorial Hospital.
She was born January 27, 1934 to Ferd and Lydia (Fastenau) Casten in Chester.
Ruth married John E. Welten on June 20, 1953. They shared 44 years of marriage.
He preceded her on March 19, 1998.
She was a secretary for Voss Heating and Cooling for many years. She loved to sew and paint.
Her greatest joy was being with her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Quilting Guild; Murphysboro Immanuel Ladies Auxiliary and Alter Guild.
She volunteered for St. Joseph's Hospital and also for senior citizens.
Ruth is survived by her children - Thomas (Patty) Welten of Murphysboro; Sharon Kay (Roger) Bower of Ava; and Nancy Lynn Welten of Austin, Texas and a daughter-in-law, Sheila Welten of Powder Springs, GA
Grandchildren - Kerry (Buck) Thies of Ava; Christina (Brian) DeRossett of Vergennes; John (Jessica) Welten of Murphysboro; Robert (Shannon) Welten of Zionville, NC; Adam (Kara) Welten of Atlanta, GA; Stacy (James) Schatte of Ava; Katie (Brad) Brewer of Cutler and Fiona Welten of Austin, Texas
Twenty great-grandchildren; a nephew, Rick Hecke of St. Louis, Mo.; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Robert Welten; a brother, Harold Casten and a sister, Dorothy Hecke.
Funeral Services for Ruth E. Welten were held Sunday, April 24, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Joseph Holmes officiating at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home.
Interment followed at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Chester.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Elevator Fund or the Immanuel Lutheran School.
