Obituary for Charles L. Hoffman

Charles L. Hoffman, 91, of Belleville, Illinois, born Friday, May 30, 1924, in Keensburg, IL, died Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.

During World War II, Charley was in Company "L" 386th Infantry Regiment 97 Division.

He served in both the European and Pacific Theaters from 1943 to 1946, attended Kansas State University as part of the Army Specialized Training Program and was awarded the Bronze Star.

During the late 1940s and early 1950s, he taught and served as Principal of the Ellis Grove School.

After leaving that position, he taught Radio School at Scott Air Force Base, eventually becoming a Systems Analysis at Scott AFB until he retired in 1990.

He taught Sunday School for over 20 years and was a member of the Swansea Baptist Church (formerly known as Lakeview Southern Baptist Church).

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Philip and Effie nee Gilmore, Hoffman, Brother, Philip Hoffman, Jr.

Surviving are his Wife, Norva L. nee Miers, Hoffman of Belleville, IL, Sons, Terry (Doris) Hoffman of Beaverdam, VA, Jerry (Lynn) Hoffman of O Fallon, IL, Grandchildren, Lindsey (Jared) Shorter, Amanda Hoffman, Emily Hoffman, Adam Hoffman, Terry "T.J." Hoffman, Jr,, Kevin VanCoutren, Great-Grandchildren, Blake Shorter, Aiden Shorter, Nephews, Barry, David, Randy, Rick, John, Gary, Jimmy, Niece, Jeri Lynn

As well as extended family members, in-laws, and friends (including staff and residents at the Fountains of Shiloh) whose lives are richer for having known him.

Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, January 29, 2016 at Ellis Grove City Cemetery in Ellis Grove, IL with Rev. Wilson Wickiser officiating. Interment will follow at Ellis Grove City Cemetery in Ellis Grove, Illinois.
