Obituary for Jerry Clinton Hostetler

Jerry Clinton Hostetler, 72 of Murphysboro passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 12:05 am in Barnes Jewish Hospital.

He was born May 9, 1943 to Harry and Opal (Burris) Hostetler in Tower Hill.

Jerry married Sandy Schnoeker Jeremiah on May 28, 1990. Together they shared 24 years of marriage.

He retired from Southern Illinois University as an Associate Professor at the Morris Library. He was a Director of Teaching with Primary Resources Gran Project through the Library of Congress.

He loved to travel. He was an avid Saluki fan and a great supporter of public radio. He loved Seinfeld shows, the outdoors, fishing, bike riding and running.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Hostetler of Murphysboro; a son, Craig (Gina) Hostetler of Energy; a daughter, Shelley Hostetler of Palatine; a son, Zack Hostetler of Murphysboro; 2 grandsons, Max Hostetler and Nick Perry; a granddaughter, Mary Hostettler; a brother, Larry (Marion) Hostetler and a sister, Veryl Kay (Tom) Cook both of Phoenix, AZ; and a sister Edith (Sam) McNeilly of LaSalle; 2 brother-in-laws, Dennis Schnoeker and Dean (Sandy) Schnoeker, both of Sparta and a sister-in-law, Sharon (Joe) Dearing of Las Cruces, NM; mother-in-law, Betty Schnoeker of Steelville; other relatives, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy White.

A Memorial Service for Jerry Clinton Hostetler will be at a later date.

Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
