Daphne Geneva Morgan
Daphne Geneva Morgan, 94, of Marion, Ill., formerly of Du Quoin, died at 4:44 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at home with her daughter at her side.
Daphne was born on June 21, 1920 to Luther and Thelma (Waller) Loucks. She spent the next 80 years in Du Quoin, where she met and married Charles Albert Morgan, raised a family and was active in her church and her town.
For Daphne, caring for people wasn't just a passing sentiment.
Caring meant taking action to improve the lives of those around her. Daphne cared deeply for her family, her friends and her community and she acted out that care in a thousand different ways. She opened up her home, her prayers and, most of all, her heart to anyone who needed it. No one will ever know just how many lives she touched because she was not in it for recognition, but for people.
Family meant everything to Daphne. She dedicated her life to being a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and everything in between. There was nothing she would not sacrifice to bring even a small amount of joy to any member of her family. She leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Kathi and Wayne Tate of Marion; a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Mary Morgan of Cleveland, Ohio; five grandchildren: Nicole (Jack) Midence, Kristen (Dan) Binder, Josh (Mary Beth) Tate, Michael Morgan and Megan Tate and eight great-grandchildren: Noah, Ella, Ashley, Jack, Claire, Marietta, Jack B. and Griffin. She is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Don and Hazel Loucks and a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Dee Etherton.
Daphne was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and three sisters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery to follow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
