Ernestine C. Schafer

Ernestine C. "Ernie" Schafer, age 89, of Du Quoin, Ill., passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2014 in Heartland Regional Medical Center, Marion, Ill.

Ernie was born on Oct. 7, 1924 in Desoto, Ill., a daughter to Nickolaus A. and Edith Mae (Blumenstock) Schafer. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill. Ernie was very crafty, enjoying embroidery and working on quilt blocks. She enjoyed planting flowers and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include a brother, Elmer Schafer of Du Quoin, Ill.; two sisters, Norma Fager of Murphysboro, Ill. and Clara Mae (Dale) Dublo of Sesser, Ill.; several dear nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Helen Stein.

A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill., on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Joseph Oganda officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Du Quoin, Ill.

Friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Du Quoin, Ill., from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church Fund, masses or donor's choice.
