Fayetta Fern Queen
Fayetta Fern Queen, 85, of Du Quoin, passed away at 8:00 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
Fern had been a cook at J.B. Ward School for over 40 years. She was of the Baptist faith. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and TOPS. Fern was an avid Cubs fan.
She was born Aug. 7, 1928 at Percy, Ill., the daughter of Clyde Marion and Martha Ellen (Edwards) Wrolen.
She married Lawrence Dale Queen on May 11, 1946 at Du Quoin, Ill. and he preceded her in death on Oct. 7, 2004.
She is survived by two children - Sandra Rae Arnold and husband Ed of Marion and Daniel J. Queen and special friend Kelly Phillips of Du Quoin, one sister - Maudie Belle (Wrolen) Deppe of Percy, Ill., three grandchildren - Carrie L. Smith of Marion, Ill., Amy R. Holden and husband Rex of Christopher, Ill. and Abbie J. Miller and husband Dr. Brad Miller of Marion, Ill., step-grandchild- Kegan Arnold of Carbondale, Ill., seven great grandchildren - Zachary Smith and Chelsey Smith, both of Marion, Aleesha Holden, Jena Holden and Dylan Holden, all of Christopher, Hannah Miller and Kirsten Miller, both of Marion and her dog - Penny.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son who passed away at birth - Donald Dale Queen, two brothers - George Wrolen and Randy Wrolen, one sister - Ruth Emling and a baby sister - Thelma Wrolen.
Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Bro. Roy Pepmiller officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Du Quoin.
Friends may make memorials to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
