Du Quoin High School Theater program presents 'The Wizard of Oz'
The Du Quoin High School theater program will present 'The Wizard of Oz' this weekend in the DHS auditorium.
The story is familiar to most. The musical is based on the 1939 film starring Judy Garland which was adapted from the L. Frank Baum novel, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," first published in 1900.
Dorothy Gale lives on a Kansas farm with her aunt and uncle. A tornado strikes the farm and Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are locked out of the storm shelter. She receives a blow to the head and wakes up in the land of Oz. There she accidentally kills a wicked witch, meets a good witch, gets a new pair of shoes, makes friends with a scarecrow, lion and tin man and sets off on an adventure marked by familiar song and dance numbers. The friends follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City while trying to evade another wicked witch. They all seek help from the Wizard of Oz.
The Wizard tells them to bring him the surviving wicked witch's broom and he will help them. They eventually get it and return to the Emerald City. Each gets what they were seeking.
Dorothy then wakes up in her Kansas home.
