Irvin J. Hartline

Irvin J. Hartline, 87, of Dowell, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro.

Junior was a retired mechanic for the Consolidate #2 Coal Mine. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a member of Du Quoin VFW Post 513 and had served as Quartermaster from 1996 to 2003. He was a member of American Legion Post 0975 and the UMWofA. Junior served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was born May 13, 1926 at Cobden, Ill. the son of Irvin Julious and Maude Ethel (Lasley) Hartline.

He married Cecelia (Savka) Chadwell on July 22, 1976 at Pinckneyville, Ill. and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Dowell, daughter- Jacqueline Giffin and husband James of South Lake, Tex., two step sons- Joseph Chadwell and wife Margaret of Chicago and Steven Chadwell and wife Theresa of Chicago, grandson- Gregory Giffin and wife Christa of Windsor, Colo., one great grandson, one great granddaughter, brother- Raymond Hartline of Anna and sister-in-law- Mary Spytek of Dowell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and six sisters.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Parrish Cemetery at Vergennes.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW, American Legion and the Army National Guard.
