Lillian Maxine Downen

Lillian Maxine Downen, 91, of Tamaroa, passed away at 4:20 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Fair Acres Rehab and Care Center in Du Quoin.

Lillian had been a homemaker. She had worked at P.R. Mallory, Essex, Hollywood Candy Factory in Ashley and Pinckneyville Garment Factory. Lillian had also had a beauty shop in her home. She retired in 1991 as a CNA from Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Tamaroa and a member of the A.A.R.P.

She was born Dec. 29, 1922 at St. Johns, Ill., the daughter of James H. and Amanda (Elder) Woodside.

She married Lyle Downen on June 6, 1948 at Tamaroa, Ill. and he preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 2001.

She is survived by one daughter - Verna Jean Hill and husband Brian of Tamaroa, one son - Lyle Albert Downen and wife Mary of Pinckneyville, six grandchildren - John Hill and wife Lisa of Percy, Ill., Beth Bruce and husband Tom of Belleville, Ill., Barb Taylor and husband Danny of Pinckneyville, Mary Lynn Carns and husband David of Pinckneyville, Robert Downen and wife Jennifer of San Antonio, Tex. and Todd Downen and wife Letitia of Fairview Heights, Ill., one sister - Mabel Weisel and husband James of Tamaroa, one brother - Richard 'Beaver' Woodside and wife Sharon of Du Quoin, 14 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Rev. Colin Hirsch officiating.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.

Friend may make memorials to the Alzheimer's Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
