Eugene A. Pedtke
Eugene A. Pedtke, 72, of DuBois, Ill., passed away on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Friendship Manor Healthcare Center in Nashville, Ill.
Gene was born at DuBois on Feb. 8, 1942, the son of Albert M. and Wanda (Paszkiewicz) Pedtke. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Jeanette Przygoda on Nov. 2, 1974 and to this union two daughters were born.
Gene was a dairy farmer for 53 years before retiring in September 2009. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying the woods, coon hunting with his uncle, deer hunting, fishing, yard work, gardening and talking with his friends. He especially enjoyed looking for and collecting old machinery, in particular those orange WD45 tractors.
Gene was in the Army National Guard for six years, receiving many awards and being honorably discharged. He was a member of the American Legion Post 110 and Farm Bureau and a member of St. Mary Magdalen Church at Todd's Mill, Ill.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 39-and-a-half years, Jeanette, two daughters, Amy Pedtke of DuBois (and friend Jonathan Hunter) and Traci Mayfield of Florida, along with other relatives and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and many other relatives.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Todd's Mill, Ill. on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Bernard C. Goedde officiating and with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 110.
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Nashville, Ill. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 9 a.m.
Rosary and a prayer service will be held at the Campagna Funeral Home on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Mass offerings and memorial donations will be accepted by Campagna Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests a memorial donation to one of the following: St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, St. Mary Magdalen Church, Siteman Cancer Center, Heartland Hospice, American Legion Post 110 or do a good deed to pay it forward.
The family wishes to thank all of Gene's doctors, nurses and CNA's at Friendship Manor, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Siteman Cancer Center and Washington County Hospital, especially Dr. Goforth. In addition, we want to thank all family and friends for their thoughts and prayers. God Bless!
