Darrel L. George
Darrel L. George, 77, of Tamaroa, passed away at 4:11 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Darrel was a retired coal miner at Freeman United Coal Company and worked an additional 15 years for the State of Illinois Mine Rescue located in Du Quoin. He was a life-long farmer and a master of tractor and automobile restoration. He loved restoring old tractors and cars and his work was flawless. His love and knowledge of restoration has been passed down to his children and grandchildren as they follow in his footsteps of restoring old vehicles. He was a master of his craft and taught them well. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, time spent with family and friends at the cabin and music. He played the accordion and the guitar for many years and enjoyed listening to polka music. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Tamaroa. He attended Tamaroa Grade School and Tamaroa High School.
He was born March 31, 1936 at Tamaroa, Ill., the son of Virgil and Wanda (Rice) George.
He married Agnes Radake on Oct. 6, 1956 at Tamaroa, Ill. and she survives. They were married 57 years.
He is survived by his wife of Tamaroa, one son - Raymond (Janet) George of Du Quoin, one daughter - Debbie (Richard) James of Perryville, Mo., three grandsons - Bryant (Macie) George and Brandon George, both of Du Quoin, and Bradley Seidenstricker and fiancee Stephanie Bishop of Jackson, Mo., two great grandchildren - Easton Darrel George of Du Quoin and Emily Agnes Seidenstricker of Jackson, Mo., one sister - Charlotte (William) Riddle of Hazelwood, Mo., many beloved in-laws and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister - Janet Jones, one niece - Lona Riddle and one nephew - Jerry Jones Jr.
Per Darrel's request, a private funeral ceremony was held at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Tamaroa.
Say not in grief "He is no more." But live in thankfulness that he was.
