Hilda L. Roethe

Hilda L. Roethe, age 91, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 5:35 p.m. in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Carbondale, Ill.

Hilda was born on Nov. 30, 1922 on Thanksgiving Day in Pinckneyville, Ill., a daughter to Walter and Johanna (Wildermuth) Pick. On July 20, 1946, she married Ervin P. Roethe in Zion Lutheran Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. and he preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 2002. Hilda was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. and had served as the monthly newsletter reporter since 1972. She was baptized on Dec. 10, 1922 in her parents' home by Reverend Deye. Her confirmation verse was "Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee the crown of life." Hilda was very active in her church. She taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and was a member and past zone officer in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She loved quilting, having quilted hundreds of quilts that were shipped all over the county. Hilda also loved growing roses and making apple butter.

Survivors include a son, Jim (Susan) Roethe of Golden Gate, Ill.; two daughters, Helen (Vernon) Mayer of Cutler, Ill. and Ruth Ann (Jim) Fulton of Saunemin, Ill.; seven grandchildren, John (Kelly) Mayer, Kevin Mayer, Brian Mayer (special friend, Ilene Ruroede), Jami Roethe, Niki Roethe, Daniel Fulton and Katie (Luke) Otte; three great-grandchildren, William, Isaac and Amy Mayer and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, John Pick and Theodore Pick and three sisters, Lena Brooks, Velma Dehne and Lillian Albers.

Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend David Kollmeyer officiating. Interment will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, Ill.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, at the church, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Southern Illinois District of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
