Virginia Smith

Virginia Smith, 73, formerly of Bridgeport, Ill, passed away on Friday Sept. 21, 2012 in Du Quoin, Ill.

She was born Jan. 30, 1939 in Lawrence County to Earl Walls Sr. and Edna Aleen (Benson). She married David Smith on Oct. 30, 1976 and he survives.

Virginia worked in the health care industry and was a housekeeper. She was a lifetime member of VFW Post # 4407 of Gulf Breeze, Florida, Eagles Lodge in Du Quoin, Ill., Moose Lodge in Lawrenceville, Ill. and the American Legion in Lawrenceville, Ill. She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Lawrenceville, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister and two grandchildren.

Virginia is survived by her husband, David F.Smith; son, Rick and (Barbara) Talley of rural Bridgeport, Ill.; one step-son, David and (Sharon) Smith Jr. of Ruckersville, Va.; daughter, Gayla and (Gene) Creek of Du Quoin, Ill.; one step-daughter, Debbie Smith of Springfield, Ill.; four brothers; Jerry Walls of Crawsfordsville, Ind., Noble Walls, of Bridgeport, Ill., Randle Walls, of rural Lawrenceville, Ill. and Kenneth Walls of Lawrenceville, Ill.; two sisters, Mary Lue Burgener of rural Dundas, Ill. and Mae Engel of Murphysboro, Ill.; six grandchildren, Pamela Talley, Matthew Creek, Chastity Walker, Amy Koehn, Justin Smith and Austin Smith,; nine great-grandchildren, Brian Creek, Kendra Strake, Aliegha Creek, Grant Creek, Mylee Walker, Camden Walker, Noah Koehn, Elijah Smith, Jaxon Smith.

Her visitation will be on Wednesday Sept. 26, 2012 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Emmons-Macey and Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, Ill.

Funeral Services for Virginia Smith will be Wednesday Sept. 26, 2012 at 11a.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Pisgah Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Pinckneyville Community Hospital Oncology Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
