Charles J. Dennis

Charles J. "Chuck" Dennis, 91, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion.

Chuck was a retired truck driver for the Du Quoin Packing Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and was a member of the Anglers Sunday School Class and had served six years as the class president. He loved to play baseball and had coached Khoury League baseball for years. He had pitched baseball for the Blue Bell Packers. Chuck was a avid Cardinal baseball fan. He served in the Army-AirCorp during W.W. II.

He was born May 11, 1921 at Du Quoin, Ill. the son of Oliver and Bertha (Coffel) Dennis.

Chuck married Ruby E. Crain on Jan. 4, 1947 at Pinckneyville, Ill. and she survives.

He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, daughter- Beth Stephens of Herrin, three grandchildren- Jennifer Stephens of Springfield, Dustin Scholebo of Benton, Jason Scholebo and fiancee Jessica Dautel of Du Quoin, two great grandchildren- Davis Tyson Lutes and Gage Robert Dautel, sister- Amanda Hamburger and husband Wayne of Herrin, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother- Oliver Dennis, three sisters- Alta Moss, Delcie Kohout and Kathryn Pair.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner and Rev. Shaw DeMent officiating.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Hospice of Southern Illinois or the First Baptist Church of Du Quoin and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW, Du Quoin American Legion and the National Guard Honors detail.
