Frank Hoxie Smith

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Frank Hoxie Smith, 90, passed away at 1:06 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at his home in Midland, Texas.

"Hoxie," as he was known, was the youngest son of Lucius and Georgie Smith of Du Quoin. He is survived by two wives, Irena Zeigler Smith of Rhode Island and Virginia Witt Smith of Du Quoin; three sons and one daughter, George David Smith of New York, Daniel Witt Smith of Du Quoin, Walter Hoxie Smith of Midland, Tex. and Suzanne Elizabeth Smith Rawlings of Mesa, Ariz. and eight grandchildren.

Hoxie was a veteran of the First Infantry Division and participated in actions in the Hurtgen Forest and Battle of the Bulge. His unit participated in early actions which resulted in taking the Bridge at Ramagen, which was the last bridge crossing the Rhine River into Germany.

A military service will be held at 10 a.m. July 14, 2012 at the family plot in the IOOF Cemetery in Du Quoin, Ill.
