Mary Florence Smith

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Mary Florence Smith, 89, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:30 p.m., Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Florence was a homemaker. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. She was also a member of Blue Army, Catholic Daughters for 40 years, Altar and Rosary Society and Marshall Browning Hospital Auxiliary. Florence had been a Girl Scout leader and had made rosaries for people in Africa and prisoners. She was a member of Euchre Card Club.

She was born Dec. 26, 1922 at West Terre Haute, Ind., the daughter of Harty and Lelia (Burns) Hurst.

She married Ralph Jesse Smith on Dec. 23, 1942 at Princeton, Ind. and he preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1999.

She is survived by two daughters - Rita Hanner of Du Quoin and Mary Asbury of Du Quoin, two sons - Russell Smith of Danville and Gary Smith of Denver, Colo., 17 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers - Paul Rice and Harry Rice and one grandson - Joshua.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 29, 2012 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Fr. Nick Junker officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or Alzheimer&#39;s Association and will be accepted at the funeral home.
