Ray Roethe

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Ray "Dutch" Roethe, age 88 of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 at 8:08 p.m. in Marshall Browning Hospital, Du Quoin, Ill.

Dutch was born on Aug. 20, 1922 in Pinckneyville, Ill., a son to Otto L. and Helena (Coerber) Roethe. On Dec. 31, 1951, he married Mary L Shockley in Zion Lutheran Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. Two children were born to this union. Dutch was a veteran of the United States Army, proudly serving his country during WW II. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Pinckneyville, Ill., American Legion,and V.F.W. He was a water treatment technician for the State of Illinois, retiring after 45 years. Dutch enjoyed camping in his R.V.

Dutch is survived by two sons, Larry (Becky) Roethe of Mulkeytown, Ill. and Jerry Roethe of Memphis, Tenn.; one grandson, Isaac Roethe (special friend: Ela Kokol) of Ulm, Germany; one sister, Lois Dillon of Benton, Ill. and a sister-in-law, Rosalie Howell of Lacon, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Alice Reese; one brother, Wilbur Roethe; and two brother-in-laws, Richard Reese and J.C. Dillon.

Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Randall Moritz officiating. Interment was in Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, Ill. Military graveside rites were conducted by Presswood-Daffron American Legion Post 2504.

Friends called at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
